💡 Tips for Learning Phrasal Verbs

1. Learn by Groups

Don't try to memorize randomly. Learn all phrasal verbs with one base verb (BREAK, BRING, etc.) together. This creates mental associations.

2. Focus on Particle Meanings

Understanding particle meanings helps guess meanings:

  • UP: Often means "completely" or "increase" (give up, bring up, turn up)
  • DOWN: Often means "decrease" or "suppress" (break down, bring down, put down)
  • OUT: Often means "outside" or "completely" (break out, carry out, turn out)
  • OFF: Often means "away" or "disconnected" (break off, put off, turn off)
  • ON: Often means "continue" or "connected" (carry on, get on, turn on)

3. Create Sentence Associations

Always learn phrasal verbs with example sentences. "Break down" with "The car broke down" is easier to remember than just "break down = खराब होना".

4. Note Multiple Meanings

Many phrasal verbs have multiple meanings. For example:

  • Break down: Machine stops working / Health deteriorates / Emotionally collapse
  • Put up: Stay somewhere / Display / Tolerate (with 'with')
  • Make up: Invent / Apply cosmetics / Compensate

5. Practice with Previous Year Papers

RBSE frequently repeats certain phrasal verbs. Focus on: break down, bring up, carry out, get up, put off, turn out, come across.
